Hello guys and welcome to HeartStone for beginners! Recently hearthstone celebrated 70 million players as well as the biggest number of players playing together on the same day. With so many new players we thought there is no better time than now to create a comprehensive guide for newcomers to the game. As well as everyone else who wants to refresh on some of the most important concepts in hearthstone.
This is our first lesson and this tutorial aims at new hearthstone players to introduce them to the game and explain the most important concepts for playing and getting better at it. We frequently browsing game forums and reddit and there are a lot of repeating questions from new players which we will address and answer in this series as well.
So I will be explaining things which are not explicitly written and things which a new player will need to know to navigate the game environment. In this lesson we’ll go over game regions, game modes and everything you need to know about them. Also useful terminology and expectations for a new player.
Hearthstone Guide and Tips for beginners
Let’s Start! Before you’re going to even enter the game you have to pick a region in which you want to play. All regions are separate and your progress as well as the card collection does not transfer over. This means that you will end up with one main region where you will invest your time and money. And other regions where you might occasionally login. All regions are currently fairly equal in terms of competition on low and high ranks.
The Asia region sometimes tends to have more aggressive and fast decks populating the ladder. Then the American server for example and Europe tends to have the least aggressive decks while being generally considered as slightly tougher at the very top end of the ladder. But none of that should really influence where you play. Your best bet is to pick a server where you have the most friends playing so that you can challenge them and get some help completing your quests faster.
From the very bottom we have tavern brawl. This is a very casual and relaxed mode that changes each week. Every Wednesday for America and Europe or every Thursday for Asia server. A new type of tavern brawl is rotated in until the next Monday. This mode includes a vast variety of challenges to play against or with other players. Once you get a win it rewards you with a classic card pack. So it’s worth getting at least one win each week.

Next we have arena. If you’re thinking about playing this game longterm without paying for all your cards you should become very familiar with this mode. Next tutorial will cover this in greater detail but here are some of the things you should know about it. An average of 3 wins which means an average of 50% win rate yields around the same value as buying packs for gold but you also get the experience of playing arena which means if you ever want to become good at it is invaluable. Arena rounds take time while buying packs is instant arena run has to be played through. But the patience is compensated for with greater and greater rewards the more you invest in it.
In the beginning you’ll have absolutely no clue how to draft your deck. Don’t be discouraged and use a good tier list such as the one on theliteforge.com and watch how great arena streamers play to improve over time. Next is Solo adventures. This is where you will start off playing against AI to earn the basic cards and unlock your heroes. Whenever you acquire any single-player content this is where you’ll find it. Outside of those two things this section of your hearthstone client will be just collecting dust and spider webs.
Play mode better known as constructed. This is the most popular mode where people play and compete against each other. And there are 4 sub categories of play here. First of all we have ranked and casual. Casual the wins and losses don’t affect your rank and people tend to play more experimental decks here. This is eighth place for quickly finishing your quests trying whacky ideas or for some people getting easy wins to boost your confidence by farming those types of decks so you will say sometimes very popular method X.
Ranked mode is where you earn and lose stars. To climb the ladder to eventually one day maybe reach the legend rank which is the carrot at the end of that stick. The ranks from 25 to one are more like tiers of players. While legend ranks get a number that corresponds to their actual placement. The vast majority of players hangs between rank 25 and 15 and here is a rough estimation of the percentages shared by Blizzard.
